Conference: The reform of the Chinese People's Liberation Army's Organization

The briefing will discuss the PLA's 15-grade and 10-rank structure that forms the basis for the PLA's overall structure. It looks at the changes in the Central Military Commission in terms of structure and personnel. It then addresses the structure of the four services -- Army, Navy, Air Force and Rocket Force -- and the new Strategic Support Force, as well as the shift from the previous 7 Military Regions to 5 Theater Commands and their subordinate Theater Command services and the new focus on "jointness".

After looking at what the PLA calls "above the neck", it then addresses the changes that have occurred "below the neck", meaning at the corps to platoon levels. Finally, the briefing discusses key personnel issues and changes to the military academic institution structure. The briefing does not discuss weapons and equipment. Although the briefing does not discuss PLA strategy and doctrine, that can be a discussion during the Q&A period.
