Florence Parly, Minister of the Armed Forces, had announced on September 24, 2017 the order of a third patrol ship of type "PLG" (Guyanese light patrol ship) for the Antilles. In accordance with this decision, the French Defense procurement agency (DGA) awarded on 1 December 2017 this contract to the Socarenam shipyard. This 3rd PLG will increase the State's response capacity in the region, in particular to better deal with humanitarian crises or conduct anti-trafficking operations. It will be delivered by 2019.
The first two PLG, La Confiance and La Résolue, ordered by the DGA on December 19, 2014, were respectively received on February 1 and September 8, 2017. Particularly adapted to the operational environment of the Caribbean-French Guiana maritime zone, these two multipurpose vessels allow the Navy to ensure missions of sovereignty and protection of national interests in this maritime zone, including the protection of the Guiana Space Center, the fisheries law enforcement, the fight against illicit trafficking, the detection of illegal migratory flows, the surveillance of navigation, the safeguarding of people and goods, the fight against marine pollution.
